Donation to bolster cancer diagnostics and treatment for over 70,000 patients annually

Mumbai: In a major boost to cancer care, Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Powergrid Corporation of India for the provision of a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) system at Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) under Powergrid’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

This high-end DSA-CT imaging system, capable of high-resolution, real-time visualization of blood vessels and tissues, will enhance interventional radiology services at TMH — one of Asia’s leading cancer institutes treating over 70,000 new cancer patients annually.

The installation is expected to support up to 3,000 procedures per year, significantly improving diagnosis accuracy, treatment planning, and clinical outcomes, particularly benefiting underprivileged patients by reducing delays and enhancing care precision.

“With cancer cases in India projected to rise by 12.8% by 2025, the need for advanced, AI-enabled technologies is urgent,” said Dr. Sudeep Gupta, Director of TMC. He expressed gratitude for the donation, noting its role in reducing patient waiting times and improving care quality.

Shri Hara Prasad Pal, General Manager (HR) at Powergrid, stated, “We are honored to contribute to TMH’s mission of accessible, world-class cancer treatment. Medical technology should be a right, not a privilege.”

The initiative highlights the growing role of public-private collaboration in strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure.
