Rs 750 crore worth development projects launched; new healthcare facility to serve Kandhamal and neighboring districts
Bhubaneswar/Phulbani: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday inaugurated a 100-seat government medical college and a 650-bedded hospital in Phulbani, marking a significant boost to healthcare and medical education in Kandhamal district and surrounding areas.
Addressing a public gathering during his visit to the district, the Chief Minister said the long-pending demand of Kandhamal residents has finally been fulfilled. “This facility is a historic step towards transforming the healthcare landscape of not just Kandhamal, but also neighboring districts like Nayagarh, Boudh, and Kalahandi,” he said.
Alongside the inauguration, Majhi also laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects worth Rs 750 crore aimed at enhancing infrastructure and services across the district.
Highlighting the importance of the new institution, he said, “The medical college will not only provide education but also ensure better and more accessible health services, creating local employment opportunities and promoting research.”
Criticizing past administrations, Majhi stated that Odisha’s healthcare system had been neglected for over two decades under the name of ‘universal service.’ He assured that his government is committed to reversing that trend.
He announced that Rs 23,635 crore—the highest healthcare allocation in Odisha’s history—has been earmarked in the current budget, representing 8.2% of the total expenditure. He further promised that no hospital in Odisha will face a shortage of doctors by next year.
The CM also unveiled plans to enhance tourism in Daringbadi, dubbed the “Paradise of Odisha,” with Rs 18 crore earmarked for its development and Rs 4.5 crore for improving the Putudi waterfall area.
