Varanasi: Aarti (30), a staff nurse in the paediatric department of SSL Hospital, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), was found dead by hanging in her rented room in Susuwahi locality under Chitaipur police station on Tuesday night.
Incident Details
Inspector Gopal of Chitaipur police station stated on Wednesday that the incident came to light when Aarti’s husband, Mohit, a medical practitioner in Palwal, Haryana, contacted her landlord after being unable to reach her. The landlord went to her room, and upon receiving no response, informed the police. Officers broke down the door and found Aarti hanging from a scarf.
A forensic team collected evidence before sending the body for postmortem. The police did not find a suicide note, but Aarti’s colleagues mentioned that she had been stressed due to work and family reasons in recent days.
Background and Investigation
Aarti had joined BHU as a staff nurse on December 5, 2024. Her husband and their three-year-old daughter had left for Haryana about fifteen days ago. After she failed to report for duty at 7 AM, her colleagues tried to contact her. Upon getting no response, they informed her husband, which led to the tragic discovery.
Police are investigating further to determine the circumstances leading to her death.
