Madikeri – The Somwarpet Taluk Agitation Committee has issued a stern warning to authorities, threatening widespread protests if immediate administrative reforms are not implemented at the Government Community Hospital in Somwarpet.
Speaking at a press meet, committee president Arun Kothnalli accused hospital officials of mismanagement and internal disputes that are directly impacting patient care. “The government is providing the necessary grants and facilities, but due to poor coordination and infighting among the officials, the hospital is failing in its basic responsibilities,” he said.
The committee cited non-functional medical equipment, including a scanning machine and a broken X-ray printer left unrepaired for over a year, as clear evidence of operational neglect. Despite the presence of trained technicians, the equipment remains unused, further straining patient services.
Calling the situation dire, Kothnalli added, “The hospital itself is in the ICU, not just due to lack of infrastructure but also because of the absence of specialist doctors and harassment faced by the current staff.”
The committee also criticized the local health minister, who hails from Somwarpet taluk, for failing to address these persistent issues despite multiple representations.
The agitation committee has demanded the immediate appointment of qualified staff, repair of critical medical equipment, and administrative restructuring to ensure accountability and functional efficiency.
