Recognition highlights commitment to patient safety, hospital standards, and free medical services for underserved communities

The Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) has achieved entry-level accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), marking a significant milestone in its journey toward excellence in healthcare delivery.

Accreditation Reflects Quality and Patient Safety Standards

The accreditation was granted after the institute successfully met national benchmarks across key areas such as patient safety, quality of care, and hospital management systems. NABH accreditation is considered a gold standard in India’s healthcare sector, ensuring that hospitals adhere to stringent protocols and deliver reliable medical services.

“Only a Small Percentage of Hospitals Accredited”

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Padmashree, Medical Superintendent of SMSIMSR, emphasized the rarity of such recognition. She noted that out of nearly 80,000–90,000 hospitals in India, only about 1.4% have full NABH accreditation, while roughly 3% hold entry-level status.

She added that this milestone is just the beginning, expressing confidence that the institute will soon achieve full NABH accreditation.

Institute Backed by Modern Infrastructure and Vision

The institute, inaugurated in 2023 by Narendra Modi, operates in Muddenahalli and is supported by the 400-bed Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital. It is dedicated to offering free, high-quality medical services to economically disadvantaged communities.

Robotic Surgery Expansion Through Strategic Collaboration

In 2025, SMSIMSR partnered with the SSI Group of Companies, leading to a major technological upgrade. Under this collaboration, SS Innovations donated a surgical robotic system and supported the establishment of a robotic cardiac surgery center, enhancing advanced treatment capabilities at the institute.

Infosys Foundation Boosts Maternal and Child Healthcare

Separately, the Infosys Foundation collaborated with Prashanthi Balamandira Trust to strengthen healthcare services at the Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital.

This initiative focuses on improving access to quality maternal and child healthcare for underprivileged women, infants, and children in rural Karnataka, further reinforcing SMSIMSR’s mission of inclusive healthcare.

A Step Towards Comprehensive Healthcare Excellence

With NABH entry-level accreditation now secured, SMSIMSR has taken a crucial step toward becoming a fully accredited institution. The recognition not only validates its current standards but also sets the stage for further advancements in patient care, infrastructure, and medical innovation.
