Woman doctor alleges obscene comments and gestures by six men during movie; police register case and begin investigation
A woman doctor was allegedly molested and her husband and friends were allegedly assaulted at a multiplex inside a mall in Kolkata on Sunday evening. Police have arrested six men following the doctor’s complaint.
According to the complaint, the six accused allegedly harassed the group throughout the movie by making obscene and sexually suggestive comments and gestures. The situation reportedly escalated after the doctor and her companions objected to the behaviour, following which the accused allegedly assaulted them.
Police Called After Altercation at Theatre
Theatre authorities intervened after the altercation and informed the police.
Police officers reached the cinema hall and attempted to speak with the six men. According to police sources, the accused allegedly argued with the officers, used abusive language and behaved rudely with other moviegoers.
The six men were subsequently taken to the police station. Their identities were verified using identification cards found in their possession.
During questioning, one of the accused allegedly claimed to be a student of Jadavpur University and threatened serious consequences if he was arrested.
