Incident Details
Sangli: A doctor in Sangli district faced a terrifying ordeal when four people, including a woman, posing as Income Tax officials allegedly stole jewellery and cash worth around ₹2 crore from his home.

Dr. Jagganath Mehtre, who runs a hospital in Kavathe Mahankal town, said the incident occurred on Sunday night around 10:30 pm. The group showed him identity cards claiming to be from the Income Tax department and requested to search his home. Trusting them, he allowed them inside.

Robbery at Residence and Hospital
For nearly an hour, the impostors searched both Dr. Mehtre’s residence and hospital premises. During this so-called “search,” they seized jewellery and cash. Only after they left did the doctor realize the individuals were fraudsters. By Monday morning, it became clear that the four were fake IT officials, according to a TOI report.

Dr. Mehtre immediately filed a police complaint, prompting Superintendent of Police Sandip Ghuge to assign Inspector Satish Shinde from the local crime branch to investigate the case.

Investigation Underway
Inspector Shinde stated, “We have started the investigation. CCTV footage from the hospital, residence, and nearby areas is being checked. We are trying to get more information about the behaviour of the people who posed as IT officials.”

The police have launched a full-scale probe to identify the impostors and recover the stolen property.

This is not an isolated incident. Medical Dialogues recently reported a cyber fraud case where a senior cardiologist at Apollo Hospital, South Delhi, was defrauded of over ₹6.69 lakh by a man pretending to be an Army Cantonment official.
