Decoy Operation Uncovers Foetal Sex Determination Racket
Rohtak: A Health Department team from Rohtak district conducted a raid on a diagnostic centre in Delhi and apprehended a radiologist and a tout for conducting illegal foetal sex determination. The ultrasound machine used for the unlawful activity has been sealed.
According to Rohtak Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata, authorities received specific intelligence about Arogya Diagnostic and Dental Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi, where illegal prenatal sex determination was allegedly being carried out.
To confirm the illegal practice, the Health Department set up a decoy operation. A pregnant woman, acting as a customer, negotiated a deal for ₹50,000 with a tout. She was directed to visit the diagnostic centre, where the PC-PNDT cell team, led by Dr. Vishvjeet Rathee and Dr. Mohit Gill, accompanied her.
Doctor and Tout Caught Red-Handed
During the ultrasound, the radiologist, Dr. Vineet Madan, allegedly informed the woman that she was carrying twin female foetuses. Immediately after, the Health Department team conducted the raid, arresting Dr. Madan and a tout, Shailender Mathur.
Authorities recovered ₹25,500 in cash from the suspects. However, another tout, Vikas Gupta, managed to escape after pushing Dr. Vishal Chaudhary, an Additional Senior Medical Officer (ASMO), who sustained injuries during the scuffle.
The police are in the process of registering an FIR, and efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding suspect.
Strict Action to Improve Sex Ratio
Deputy Commissioner Khadgata emphasized the strict enforcement of the PC-PNDT Act and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the sex ratio. He assured that raids on diagnostic centres conducting illegal sex determination would continue.
