A tragic incident of alleged medical negligence has surfaced from the Kamri police station area, where a 30-year-old woman and her newborn lost their lives during a home delivery conducted by an unlicensed practitioner. The case has once again highlighted the alarming threat posed by quacks operating in rural regions without any formal medical training.
Unlicensed Practitioner Took Charge of Delivery
According to the victim’s family, the accused woman had taken responsibility for conducting the delivery at home. The family, unaware of her lack of qualifications, trusted her to carry out the procedure safely.
However, the situation quickly turned critical during the delivery. The newborn died first, and the mother’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Despite attempts to manage the situation, she also succumbed shortly afterward.
Accused Operated Door-to-Door Without Clinic
Initial investigations revealed that the accused did not run any registered clinic or medical facility. Instead, she reportedly traveled from village to village on a scooter, offering delivery services to unsuspecting families.
Health officials later confirmed that she had no formal medical degree or authorization to practice, raising serious concerns about how such individuals continue to operate unchecked in rural areas.
Police Action and Investigation Underway
Following the incident, the grieving family lodged a complaint with local authorities. Police reached the spot, took custody of the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination.
Station House Officer Himanshu stated that a case has been registered against the accused. Based on preliminary evidence and findings, she has been arrested and produced before the court, which has remanded her to judicial custody. The investigation remains ongoing, and further action will depend on the post-mortem report.
Health Department to Initiate Separate Case
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deepa Singh confirmed that the accused was a “complete fraud” with no medical credentials. She added that the health department has taken serious note of the incident and is in the process of filing a separate case against the accused.
Authorities from both the police and health department have assured strict action in the matter.
