Rupnagar: In a significant move, the Rupnagar district administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and the Director of Health and Family Welfare, sealed Sirat Hospital and De-addiction Centre. The decision came after multiple complaints from local residents, and it was noted that similar medical treatment could be availed at government hospitals. The private facility’s license was suspended immediately.
The action was spurred by ongoing issues related to disturbances caused by drug addicts visiting the centre, a situation that had prompted complaints from the surrounding community. The facility’s owner, a doctor, had already faced legal action from the Vigilance Department, which registered a case against him on December 31 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. This case followed allegations of corruption, leading to the suspension of the centre’s operations.
Moreover, it was revealed that the owner runs 22 other private hospitals, which are also slated to be sealed one by one.
The operation was carried out by Sachin Pathak, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Rupnagar, in accordance with directives from the health department. During the closure, all stock registers and medicines were secured, and the keys were handed over to the health department.
Notably, no patients were found at the facility during the closure, and local residents expressed their full support for the action. They had been voicing concerns about the disturbances for some time. The administration has advised patients who were receiving treatment at Sirat Hospital to seek care at government hospitals.
SDM Sachin Pathak commented, “We have received full support from the residents near the hospital, and the closure will provide significant relief to them.”
