Ludhiana, March 17: Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, visited the Civil Hospital in Ludhiana on Sunday to promote the ‘Yudh Nasheya Viruddh’ (War Against Drugs) initiative and announce key healthcare enhancements for the state.

Key Announcements & Initiatives:

🔹 Strengthening Drug Rehabilitation & Vocational Training
Dr. Singh highlighted Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s vision of a drug-free state. He emphasized that de-addiction centers will not only provide treatment but also vocational training to help rehabilitated individuals reintegrate into society.

🔹 Establishing Narcotics Support Groups
The Punjab government plans to form Narcotics Support Groups at ward and village levels. These groups will offer ongoing support to recovered individuals and help prevent relapse.

🔹 Major Healthcare Infrastructure Upgrades
A new 1,000-bedded Super Speciality Hospital will be built on a hybrid model500 beds will be free for underprivileged patients.
Two new medical colleges in Ludhiana to improve local healthcare education.
New intensive care units (ICU, PICU, NICU) to enhance critical care services.

🔹 Mohalla Clinics & Healthcare Staff Recruitment
Dr. Singh highlighted the success of Mohalla Clinics, which have provided treatment to over 3 crore people. The health department is actively recruiting doctors and paramedics to address staff shortages.

🔹 Community Facilities for Rehabilitation
The state will also develop sports venues and libraries to engage recovered individuals in positive activities.

Commitment to a Healthier Punjab

During his visit, Dr. Singh personally interacted with patients at the de-addiction center, encouraging them to stay away from drugs post-recovery. He also praised MP Sanjeev Arora for his efforts in improving Ludhiana’s health infrastructure.

Among those present at the event were ADC Amarjit Bains, SDM Jasleen Kaur Bhullar, Director of Health Dr. Hitender Kaur, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, and other officials.

With these ambitious healthcare projects, the Punjab government is taking significant steps toward combating drug abuse and improving medical facilities across the state. 🚑
