Chandigarh: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced a series of welfare measures and recruitment initiatives aimed at improving public healthcare, education, and financial support for vulnerable communities.

Key Announcements:

  • Salary Hike for Government Doctors: Acknowledging their vital contribution to public health, the government has approved a pay raise for doctors working in state hospitals.
  • Pension Increase for Acid Attack Victims: Monthly pension raised from ₹8,000 to ₹10,000, ensuring better financial security and rehabilitation support.
  • Honorarium Hike for Rural Watchmen: The government increased their monthly honorarium from ₹1,250 to ₹1,500, providing additional support to those serving in remote areas.

Recruitment Drive & Infrastructure Boost

  • 3,000 New Government Jobs Approved
    • 2,000 PTI (Physical Training Instructor) teachers for strengthening the education sector.
    • 822 posts in the health department, including 97 resident doctors and 13 sports injury specialists, to enhance medical services.
  • Special Courts for NRIs: Dedicated courts approved to ensure faster resolution of cases involving Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).
  • Pending Bills Clearance: The government has committed to clearing overdue payments, improving financial stability.
  • Land Transfer for Energy Projects: Land from Bathinda Thermal Plant transferred to PCPSL, supporting Punjab’s energy sector growth.

With these measures, the Punjab government aims to strengthen public healthcare, education, and financial aid, ensuring better services and improved livelihoods across the state.
