Balurghat: The Balurghat District Hospital is grappling with a severe shortage of doctors, prompting district health authorities to seek urgent intervention from the state Health department. A three-member team from the state Health department recently visited the district to assess the situation and assured necessary steps to address the crisis.

State Health Officials Inspect Hospital, Promise Solutions

On Wednesday, the delegation inspected rural hospitals and health centres across South Dinajpur and held a meeting with district health officials, where the doctor shortage emerged as a key concern.

The visiting officials, including Dipankar Maji (Director of Hospital Administration, State Health Department), Soumya Dutta, and Nursing Department Official Falguni Sarkar, visited various departments of the District and Super Specialty Hospital. They conducted a detailed assessment of medical facilities, splitting into three teams for a comprehensive review.

District Health Authorities Highlight Crisis

Hospital Superintendent Krishnendu Bikash Bag emphasized the severity of the situation, stating,
“A three-member team from the state Health department visited our hospital to evaluate medical facilities. We informed them about the shortage of doctors.”

Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) Sudip Das also reiterated the urgency of the matter, adding,
“They have assured us that the issue of doctor shortages will be taken seriously and addressed accordingly.”

With state intervention promised, hospital authorities and district health officials remain hopeful for swift action to improve medical services and patient care in the region.
