Pune: The city is gearing up to host its first-ever Health Literature Conference on November 19 at the Bal Gandharva Rangmandir, as part of the upcoming Pune Health Festival, marking a unique convergence of healthcare and literary dialogue.

Dr Sanjay Oak to Lead the Event
According to a UNI report, eminent paediatric and laparoscopic surgeon Dr Sanjay Oak, who is also an accomplished writer, has been elected president of the maiden conference, announced Umesh Chavan, chairman of the reception committee.

Organised by Multiple Health and Social Bodies
The event is being jointly organised by the Rugna Hakka Parishad, Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Charitable Hospitals Help Cell (Mumbai), and the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, bringing together medical professionals, writers, and policymakers under one roof.

Chief Minister Fadnavis to Inaugurate the Conference
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is scheduled to inaugurate the event, highlighting the government’s focus on public health awareness and the intersection of healthcare with social communication.

Prestigious ‘Maharashtra Arogya Bhushan Award’ to Kolhe Couple
The highlight of the conference will be the conferring of the ‘Maharashtra Arogya Bhushan Award’ to Padma Shri Dr Smita Kolhe and Dr Ravindra Kolhe, the renowned Melghat-based doctor couple celebrated for their decades of service to tribal healthcare and rural development.

Festival to Promote Preventive Health and Wellness
The Pune Health Festival will include a range of programmes promoting public health education, preventive medicine, and wellness initiatives, with active participation from doctors, NGOs, and health educators across Maharashtra.

Earlier: Pune Hosted National Pulmonology Conference
Earlier, the Army Institute of Cardio Thoracic Sciences (AICTS), Pune, hosted the API–AFMS National Pulmonology Conference from September 18 to 20, 2025, featuring over 300 residents and 100 faculty members. The event focused on advancing respiratory disease care and included seven hands-on workshops led by leading pulmonologists from across the country.
