Hospitals Given 30 Days to Comply or Face Registration Cancellation
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued show-cause notices to eight private hospitals found violating the Maharashtra Nursing Home Act during recent inspections. The hospitals have been directed to rectify issues within 30 days, failing which their registrations may be cancelled.
Violations Include Lack of Fire Safety and Non-Display of Charges Boards
The inspection uncovered multiple shortcomings such as absence of proper fire safety measures and failure to display mandatory boards including patient rights and hospital charges. These hospitals are located in areas like Kasba Peth, Ghole Road, and Kothrud under the Aundh regional office.
PMC Conducts Biannual Checks on Around 850 Hospitals and Clinics
PMC’s health department inspects hospitals twice a year to ensure compliance with the Maharashtra Private Hospitals Registration Act. Hospitals must prominently display patient rights charters, rate lists, a toll-free complaint number, patient information forms, and valid fire safety certificates.
PMC Official Warns of Strict Action for Non-Compliance
Suryakant Deokar, Assistant Health Officer, stated, “If irregularities are not rectified after the notice, we will cancel the hospital’s registration.” Notices were sent to three hospitals last week and eight more this week.
