
Kolkata: A private super-speciality hospital in the city has successfully launched its rooftop helipad, marking a significant step in enhancing emergency healthcare services. The Desun Hospital conducted its first trial run on Friday, with an Agusta 109 SP helicopter landing smoothly on the helipad.
The hospital received official approval from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on January 14, with instructions to carry out the inaugural landing as a trial. The trial was conducted by OSS Air Management Pvt Ltd, a DGCA-authorized agency, with a DGCA observer onboard to ensure compliance with regulations.
Key Details:
- Helipad Features: The helipad is located on the hospital’s rooftop, enabling quick access for air ambulance services.
- Trial Flight: The flight took off from Behala Flying Club and successfully landed at Desun Hospital.
- Coordination: The hospital kept the Airports Authority of India (AAI) informed about the flight plan and landing, following standard operating procedures.
Hospital’s Statement:
The Chairman & Managing Director of Desun Hospital, Sajal Dutta, expressed pride in this achievement, highlighting the critical role the helipad will play in providing rapid medical intervention. “This rooftop helipad will help us offer better healthcare services for critically ill patients, not just from Kolkata, but from across West Bengal, the North-East, and other parts of Eastern India,” Dutta said.
With the successful trial, the hospital plans to begin offering air ambulance services, allowing faster medical care for patients who need urgent attention.
