Calls traced through mobile data lead to arrest; probe underway to identify possible mastermind behind the threat
Patna: In a swift कार्रवाई, Patna Police arrested a आरोपी in connection with an extortion threat case involving a demand of ₹10 lakh from a prominent paediatrician. The arrest was made from Ramakrishnanagar on Friday after investigators traced the धमकी भरे calls to the suspect’s mobile number.
Threat Calls Trigger Police Action
According to City SP (Purvi) Parichay Kumar, the incident came to light on March 30 when the doctor, who operates a hospital in Mithapur, received repeated threatening calls demanding ₹10 lakh. Taking the complaint seriously, the city police immediately formed a special investigation team to track down the आरोपी.
Mobile Tracking Leads to Arrest
During the probe, police traced the calls to a SIM card registered in the name of the accused, a resident of Sakrapura village in Nawada district. Initial searches revealed that the suspect was not present in his native village, prompting authorities to intensify surveillance.
Using mobile location tracking, the police eventually located him at a rented accommodation in Ramakrishnanagar, where he was apprehended.
Devices Seized, Interrogation Underway
At the time of arrest, police recovered two mobile phones and two SIM cards from the आरोपी. He is currently being interrogated to determine whether he acted independently or was following instructions from someone else.
Officials suspect the involvement of a larger network behind the extortion attempt and are investigating all possible angles.
Rising Concerns Over Doctors’ Safety
This incident once again highlights growing concerns about the safety and security of healthcare professionals, who are increasingly becoming targets of extortion and harassment.
In a similar case reported earlier, a 30-year-old assistant doctor at a private hospital in Nashik was allegedly targeted by a history-sheeter and his female accomplice in an extortion racket. A case was registered at Mhasrul Police Station, with the main आरोपी already lodged in jail in another criminal case.

The Patna incident underscores the urgent need for stricter law enforcement measures and enhanced security protocols to protect medical professionals from such criminal activities. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against all those involved once the investigation is complete.
