Medical Negligence Case Registered
Bhopal: Five medical professionals, including a gynecologist, an anesthesiologist, a medical officer, paramedic staff, and the superintendent of Katju Hospital, have been booked for medical negligence after the death of a 34-year-old woman during a tubectomy procedure in May 2024. The TT Nagar police station registered an FIR based on the complaint, alleging that the surgery was performed without administering anesthesia.
Incident Details
The woman was admitted on May 14, 2024, for the procedure. About 20 minutes after entering the operating theater, she passed away. Her husband claimed she was in good health prior to the surgery.
Reports suggest that her stomach was swollen when she was brought out of the operating theater. The hospital staff claimed she suffered a heart attack during the procedure. Allegedly, the husband was pressured to sign documents, and the police initially refused to preserve her viscera during the post-mortem.
Legal and Court Intervention
The case was re-registered after the woman’s husband approached the court. After a seven-month legal process, the court directed the filing of an FIR, citing medical negligence in the preliminary investigation.
Violation of Medical Guidelines
Reports indicate that although anesthesiologists were present in the hospital, none accompanied the patient into the operating theater, breaching Indian Medical Association (IMA) guidelines.
Authorities have charged the following individuals:
- Dr. Jain, Gynecologist
- Colonel Singh, Hospital Superintendent
- Dr. Grewal, Medical Officer
- An Anesthesia Specialist
- Paramedic Staff
The investigation continues into the tragic incident.
