Orissa HC

Cuttack, : The Orissa High Court has pulled up the Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET), Odisha, for failing to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to a government doctor despite clear judicial orders, and has warned of initiating contempt proceedings.

Dr Smruti Snigdha Sahoo, a senior resident in radiology at SCB Medical College and Hospital, was selected for a one-year fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, set to commence on April 1, 2025. However, the DMET allegedly kept her NOC application pending without explanation, forcing her to approach the court.

On March 20, Justice A.K. Mohapatra directed the DMET to decide on her application within 10 days. With no response forthcoming, Dr Sahoo filed a contempt petition.

Taking serious note, Justice Mohapatra on Friday ordered DMET Dr Santosh Kumar Mishra to comply with the earlier directive within seven days. “Failing which, he shall be asked to appear before this court and explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated,” the court said.

The matter is posted for April 25.
