LEH, LADAKH – In a significant boost to holistic health and wellness in the high-altitude region, a One-Month Certified Yoga Instructor Course (YIC) was formally inaugurated at the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) on May 2, 2026. The programme, which runs through May 31, has attracted a diverse group of participants, including aspiring civilian instructors and a large contingent of Indian Army personnel, all seeking to master yoga as a tool for self-development and community service.

Dignitaries and Visionary Leadership

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Brigadier Ankush Thakur, Deputy GOC of the 3 Infantry Division, who served as the chief guest. Also present were Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder and Spiritual Director of MIMC; yoga expert I. V. Basavaraddi; and lead instructor Rishika.

In his address, Bhikkhu Sanghasena—a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Yoga Award—emphasised that the course is designed to train participants not just in physical postures, but in yoga as a “lifestyle rooted in discipline, awareness, and service.” Brigadier Thakur lauded the integration of yoga into military life, noting its vital role in enhancing mental resilience for soldiers stationed in Ladakh’s challenging terrains.

Course Structure and Accreditation

MIMC holds the distinction of being Ladakh’s first institute accredited by the Yoga Certification Board (YCB) under the Ministry of AYUSH. The month-long intensive training includes:

  • Asana and Pranayama: Mastery of physical postures and breathwork.
  • Meditation and Philosophy: Daily sessions on mindfulness and authentic yogic wisdom.
  • Teaching Methodology: Practical training to prepare instructors to guide others safely and effectively.
  • Personalised Wellness: Development of holistic health plans for various demographics.

Looking Ahead

The inauguration of this batch follows a series of successful collaborations, including a recent MoU between MIMC and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for specialized training. Due to high demand, MIMC has already announced that the next session of the Yoga Instructor Course is scheduled for September–October 2026, inviting wider participation from across the country and the global community.
