Bhubaneswar, July 3 — Moving to protect public health in flood‑affected areas, the Odisha Government has dispatched two specialised medical teams to Keonjhar, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts to tackle post‑diarrhoeal cases and prevent outbreaks of water‑borne illnesses.
- Keonjhar: A team led by Dr Prameela Baral, Additional Director of Public Health, is on the ground monitoring diarrhoea trends, coordinating with the district administration and ensuring supplies of ORS, IV fluids, antibiotics and disinfectants. Dr Baral is also supervising laboratory surveillance and community awareness drives on safe drinking water.
- Balasore & Mayurbhanj: A second team headed by Dr Binay Das Mohapatra, Joint Director (Public Health), is assessing flood impacts and keeping watch for unusual health events, including snake‑bite cases. Facilities have been stocked with anti‑snake venom and essential drugs as a precaution.
Both teams are verifying emergency logistics, from halazone tablets to water disinfectants, and issuing advisories to ward off disease outbreaks. State officials say the deployment is part of a wider, “prompt and proactive” response to the ongoing flood crisis, aimed at delivering coordinated medical support and safeguarding vulnerable communities.
