Bhopal | Elderly US-Based Doctor Allegedly Defrauded in Property and Cash Scam
An elderly non-resident Indian (NRI) doctor based in the United States has allegedly been cheated of property and cash worth around ₹1.87 crore in Bhopal by his nephew and the nephew’s girlfriend, police said. A case of fraud and related offences has been registered at Kolar Road police station, and investigation is underway.
Doctor Returned to Bhopal in 2018 for Family Care and Property Purchase
According to the complaint, the 67-year-old doctor, who has lived in the US for nearly three decades, visited Bhopal in 2018 to take care of his ailing sister. During his stay, he decided to purchase a house in the city and trusted his nephew to assist in the process.
Police said the nephew introduced his girlfriend to the doctor, who allegedly gained his trust over time and later became part of a planned financial fraud.
Alleged Fake Property Registration in Woman’s Name
The complainant stated that he purchased a bungalow in Singapore Villa Colony for ₹88.45 lakh. However, the accused allegedly got the property registered in the girlfriend’s name while giving the doctor a fake ownership document.
In another allegation, a luxury SUV worth ₹18 lakh, purchased by the doctor for his sister, was also reportedly registered in the woman’s name despite being fully funded by him.
Additional Property Dispute and Alleged Blackmail
The complaint further alleges that the nephew manipulated documents related to another property in Arera Colony to secure a 50% ownership share.
The accused duo has also been accused of blackmail and threats, including allegedly warning the doctor of a false rape case if he approached the police.
Police Investigation Underway in Kolar Road Fraud Case
Kolar Road police have registered an FIR in the matter and an investigation is currently underway to verify property records, financial transactions, and allegations of document forgery.
