Colleges Asked to Remain Vigilant, Sensitize Students Against Activities That May Compromise Exam Integrity
Amid preparations for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutes across the country to remain vigilant and refrain from granting leave to students on June 20 and June 21, except in exceptional circumstances with proper justification.
In a public notice issued on June 18, the NMC instructed all medical colleges and institutes under its jurisdiction to strictly comply with directions issued by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, regarding the smooth and fair conduct of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination.
The Commission noted that in previous years, instances had come to light where some medical students were allegedly involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of national-level examinations. In view of this, the NMC has asked institutions to remain alert and ensure that students are adequately sensitized against participating in any activity that may adversely affect the conduct of the examination.
Leave Restrictions Imposed as Preventive Measure
As part of the preventive measures, the Commission advised medical colleges not to grant leave to students on June 20 and June 21, 2026, unless there are exceptional circumstances supported by proper justification.
The notice, issued by NMC Secretary Dr. Raghav Langer, stated that the directive aims to discourage any potential misuse and strengthen efforts to ensure the fair conduct of the examination.
According to the notice, all medical colleges have been asked to strictly comply with the communication received from the Department of Higher Education regarding the conduct of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination.
Ministry of Education Seeks Support from Health Ministry
The NMC’s directions follow a communication from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), requesting support for the smooth and transparent conduct of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination.
In a letter dated June 13, 2026, Department of Higher Education Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi informed the Health Ministry that the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 had been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances and that a re-examination would be held on June 21, 2026.
The Ministry highlighted concerns arising from previous incidents in which certain medical college students were allegedly found involved in activities affecting the integrity of examinations. Consequently, it requested that all medical colleges be instructed to remain vigilant and educate students about the consequences of participating in any activity that could undermine the examination process.
Focus on Ensuring Fair and Transparent Examination Process
The Department further recommended that medical colleges avoid granting leave to students during the two days preceding and coinciding with the re-examination, except under extraordinary circumstances. The move is intended to serve as a deterrent against potential misconduct and support the transparent and fair conduct of one of the country’s largest medical entrance examinations.
With lakhs of aspirants set to appear for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, authorities are tightening monitoring mechanisms and reinforcing preventive measures to safeguard the credibility and integrity of the examination process.
