New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Bihar government and the state’s police chief following reports that a nine-year-old rape victim, who died at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), was left waiting in an ambulance for several hours before being admitted.

The girl, allegedly victimized in Muzaffarpur district on May 26, was brought to PMCH in critical condition on May 30. The NHRC stated that if the reports are true, they represent a serious violation of human rights.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the media reports, the NHRC has sought a detailed report from Bihar’s chief secretary and director general of police within two weeks.

According to the reports, the accused had previously committed a similar offence against a 12-year-old girl and allegedly attempted to kill her.
