New Delhi : In a major crackdown on exam malpractice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has ordered the immediate suspension of 26 MBBS students and cancelled admissions of 14 others found complicit in unfair practices during NEET-UG 2024, according to official sources.
The action follows findings from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case, which prompted the National Testing Agency (NTA) to debar 42 candidates from appearing for the exam for the next three years — 2024, 2025, and 2026. Another nine candidates were barred for the 2025 and 2026 sessions.
The candidature of 215 additional students has been put on hold pending further investigation, sources added.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against academic fraud, the NMC has instructed all medical colleges and institutions involved to comply immediately with its directives. “Such violations severely compromise the credibility of medical education in India,” an official said.
This move comes just days before NEET-UG 2025, scheduled for May 4, with the NMC and NTA already rolling out stricter protocols for paper transport and coaching centre surveillance.
