Dr. Udit Bhaskar Vaish Represents India at ECIM 2025 in Florence

Navi Mumbai: Dr. Udit Bhaskar Vaish, a Resident Doctor in General Medicine at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai, was invited to present his clinical work and research at the European Congress of Internal Medicine (ECIM) 2025 in Florence, Italy. The prestigious conference, held from March 5-8, 2025, is one of the largest global gatherings of internal medicine experts, organized by the European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM).

Focus on Multisystem Disorders and Collaborative Care

Dr. Vaish’s research focused on complex multisystem conditions, including metabolic, cardiac, neurological, endocrine, and renal disorders that require collaborative management across multiple specialties. His study emphasized how overlapping symptoms in these conditions complicate diagnosis and treatment, underscoring the need for a multidisciplinary approach, particularly in time-sensitive and critical cases.

“These cases often present with symptoms that don’t clearly belong to a single specialty,” Dr. Vaish explained. “For instance, a neurological issue could indicate an underlying metabolic disorder that poses a future risk. Through this research, I wanted to highlight how Indian doctors navigate such challenges and achieve successful patient outcomes despite resource constraints.”

Case Studies Presented by Dr. Vaish

His research included real-world case studies that illustrated diagnostic challenges, treatment strategies, and patient outcomes, such as:

  • Bulbar-onset ALS
  • Renal Tubular Acidosis in a newly diagnosed Sjögren’s Syndrome patient, presenting as Hypokalemic Paralysis with respiratory collapse triggered by Dengue infection
  • Multiple Sclerosis misdiagnosed as Post-Herpetic Neuralgia
  • Rare forms of Diabetes Mellitus

ECIM 2025: A Platform for Global Medical Advancements

The ECIM 2025 conference attracted over 3,000 research submissions from more than 80 countries, covering key topics such as:

  • Multimorbidity and aging-related diseases
  • Advancements in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders
  • Artificial intelligence in internal medicine
  • Personalized medicine and precision healthcare

Dr. Vaish’s work aligned with these themes, contributing to discussions on complex, multi-system disorders and their management.

Recognizing Indian Clinical Expertise on the Global Stage

Reflecting on his participation, Dr. Vaish stated, “Medical research is constantly evolving, and platforms like ECIM allow clinicians and researchers to exchange knowledge, refine clinical approaches, and stay updated on global best practices.”

His participation highlights the clinical expertise of Indian doctors and how they excel despite resource limitations, proving that strong diagnostic and treatment skills transcend technological constraints.

With a growing emphasis on multidisciplinary care, research like Dr. Vaish’s plays a crucial role in shaping future medical strategies. Conferences such as ECIM foster global collaborations and encourage medical professionals to integrate new research into everyday clinical practice, ultimately improving patient care worldwide.
