A tragic workplace accident has been reported from Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, where a 50-year-old contractual employee lost her life after her head reportedly got stuck in an elevator-like system within the hospital premises.

Fatal Incident in Surgery Department

The deceased, who was working in the hospital’s surgery department, suffered critical injuries during the incident that occurred on Monday. According to reports, the accident took place when she leaned into a freight elevator system typically used for transporting surgical equipment.

Head Trapped as Equipment Hoist Suddenly Moved

As per initial findings, the system—described by the hospital as a hoist trolley rather than a passenger elevator—suddenly moved while the victim was in close proximity. Her head became trapped in the mechanism, leading to severe trauma.

The incident came to light when a fellow employee witnessed the घटना and immediately alerted others. Despite efforts by staff members to rescue her, she remained trapped for several minutes before being freed.

Shifted to ICU, Succumbed to Injuries

Following the rescue, the victim was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for emergency treatment. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she could not be saved.

Police Register Negligence Case After Family Complaint

After the incident, the victim’s son filed a formal complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, authorities have registered a case of negligence against the hospital management. An investigation is currently underway to determine accountability.

Hospital Clarification: No Technical Fault Found

In its official statement, the hospital administration clarified that the system involved was not a conventional elevator but a hoist trolley used for transporting drums of surgical instruments.

The administration further stated that an inspection by a government electrical engineer found no mechanical faults or technical defects in the system. According to the hospital, the accident occurred because the victim allegedly crossed designated safety boundaries and did not follow operational guidelines.

Probe Continues Amid Safety Concerns

Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact sequence of events, including whether safety protocols were adequate and properly enforced. The incident has raised serious concerns about workplace safety standards in hospital environments.

Recent Similar Incident Raises Alarm

This tragedy comes shortly after another shocking incident in Lucknow, where a speeding SUV allegedly driven by a doctor hit a scooter and ran over people sleeping on a footpath, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.

The Nashik incident underscores the urgent need for stringent safety compliance and monitoring in healthcare institutions to prevent such fatal accidents in the future.
