Nagpur : In a chilling case that has shocked the academic and medical community, Assistant Professor Dr Archana Rahule, who worked in the physiotherapy department of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, was allegedly murdered by her husband and his brother.
According to police, Dr Anil Shivshankar Rahule (52) and his brother Raju Rahule were arrested after it emerged they had orchestrated the killing on April 9 over suspicions of infidelity. In a bid to mislead investigators, they tried to stage the murder as a robbery gone wrong, claiming they discovered Dr Archana’s body only on April 12.
Dr Anil Rahule, who is posted as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Medical College in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, had allegedly been harassing his wife for some time, suspecting her of cheating. “He had even installed CCTV cameras outside the house to monitor her movements,” said DCP Zone 4 Rashmita Rao.
On April 9, Dr Anil attempted to reach his wife by phone, but she didn’t respond. When he failed to contact her again on April 10 and 11, he allegedly returned to Nagpur and murdered her at her residence in Ladikar Layout, under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar Police Station. His brother Raju was reportedly an accomplice.
After the murder, Dr Anil left for Raipur, while Raju went to Bhandara district, police said. On April 12, Dr Anil returned and falsely claimed to have found his wife dead, alleging a robbery and murder had taken place. However, technical investigation and evidence collected by Hudkeshwar police pointed to his direct involvement in the crime.
Both brothers are now in police custody, and the case continues to be under investigation.
