Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH), Gaya, will be transformed into a modern super-speciality hospital under a major redevelopment and expansion plan aimed at strengthening healthcare services in the Magadh region. Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar reviewed the project’s master plan on Thursday with Health Department Secretary Kumar Ravi and senior officials, focusing on infrastructure expansion, advanced medical services, medical education facilities and modern healthcare delivery.
Redevelopment and Modernisation Plan
The proposed redevelopment will focus on upgrading ANMMCH’s infrastructure while expanding specialised medical services and improving facilities for medical education. The master plan is being prepared keeping in view the increasing patient load and the need to incorporate modern healthcare technologies.
Nishant Kumar directed officials and executing agencies to maintain construction quality, ensure transparency and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. He also emphasised that construction activities should be carried out without disrupting ongoing patient care.
“The reconstruction and modernisation of ANMMCH will give a new direction to healthcare in the region. Construction work should be completed within the stipulated timeframe without affecting ongoing patient care,” Nishant said.
New Infrastructure and Student Facilities
Under the redevelopment plan, the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL) will oversee several infrastructure projects at the institution.
The plan includes construction of modern student hostels and a new mortuary complex, along with renovation of existing hostels. The hospital’s power supply infrastructure will also be strengthened as part of the proposed development.
ANMMCH Records Significant Patient Footfall
During the meeting, officials also reviewed the clinical performance of ANMMCH. In June 2026, the hospital treated 36,155 outpatients and admitted 2,965 patients.
The institution also managed 1,166 emergency cases during the month. In addition, 460 major surgeries and 2,693 minor surgeries were performed at the hospital in June 2026.
Focus on Healthcare in Magadh Region
Officials said the proposed transformation of ANMMCH is expected to improve access to specialised healthcare services for people across the Magadh region. The upgraded facility could also reduce the need for patients to travel to Patna and other major cities for advanced medical treatment.
The Health Minister directed officials to conduct regular monitoring and periodic reviews of the redevelopment project, describing the initiative as an important step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.
