Dimapur: Nagaland has inaugurated its first end-to-end Digital Health Model Facility under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) at the District Hospital Dimapur. The initiative marks a major step toward fully digitising hospital services across the state, enhancing efficiency and patient care.

Vision for a Seamless Digital Healthcare System

According to a PTI report, Anoop Khinchi, Commissioner and Secretary of Health and Family Welfare and State Mission Director for ABDM, said the new model facility would serve as a benchmark for integrating modern infrastructure with advanced digital tools. He noted that the project aims to significantly improve the quality and coordination of healthcare services.

Transformative Scan-and-Share Feature

Khinchi highlighted the importance of ABDM’s scan-and-share feature, calling it a transformative tool for patient convenience. With this feature, patients can seamlessly share their health records with doctors, enabling faster diagnosis, safer care, and more coordinated treatment across departments.

Integration With ABDM Core Components

The digital health model at District Hospital Dimapur seeks to establish a seamless and secure ecosystem by digitising all patient-related services. The hospital will integrate with ABDM’s core components, including the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), the Health Facility Registry (HFR), and the Health Professional Registry (HPR), ensuring easy registration and access to digital health records.

Streamlined Patient Services Through Digitisation

Through digitisation, patients will now be able to manage registrations, appointments, and health records digitally, reducing waiting times and paperwork. Officials said that scan-and-share access will allow patients to receive more efficient care, while healthcare professionals can make better-informed decisions.

A Step Toward Statewide Digital Healthcare Expansion

The facility is expected to serve as a model for other hospitals across Nagaland, paving the way for the expansion of end-to-end digital health services in the state. Authorities believe that the transformation will help bridge gaps in healthcare delivery, especially in remote regions.

Parallel Advancement in Health Research

Alongside the state’s digital healthcare progress, Nagaland University recently inaugurated a cancer research laboratory at its Lumami campus. The lab, set up under the Department of Zoology, marks a significant milestone in strengthening research capabilities and addressing the increasing cancer burden in the region.

Emotional Reflections During Lab Inauguration

During the inauguration ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik shared personal reflections on how cancer had deeply affected his family, noting that he had lost close relatives to the disease. His remarks underscored the urgent need for dedicated research initiatives and improved healthcare infrastructure in the region.
