Mumbai, June 11: A woman gynaecologist setting up a new clinic in Borivali (West) was allegedly threatened and extorted for ₹10,000 by individuals claiming to represent a labour union. The incident occurred while furniture work was underway at her upcoming clinic in the Green Woods building, Shimpoli.

According to the complaint filed with the Borivali Police, the doctor—who resides in Kandivali—said that around 1 PM on Tuesday, an unidentified man approached the site, intimidated the labourers, and halted all work. He demanded a receipt of ₹10,000 in the name of the Mathadi Workers’ Union to allow the work to resume.

Soon after, another man, later identified as Vivek Jadhav, allegedly called the doctor and reiterated the threat, warning that non-payment would lead to vandalism and permanent disruption of her clinic’s operations.

“I wasn’t present when the incident occurred and do not know these individuals. The property is self-owned, and this is the first time such a thing has happened,” the doctor told the media.

Following her complaint, an FIR has been registered against two unknown persons under Sections 308(4), 333, 352, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police have launched an investigation into the extortion and are working to identify the accused using CCTV footage and call records.
