Faridabad: In a shocking revelation, police in Faridabad have confirmed that the cardiology degree of Dr. Pankaj Mohan Sharma, an MBBS-qualified doctor accused of impersonating a cardiologist and performing over 50 heart surgeries, is fake. The case has raised serious concerns about patient safety and credential verification in public hospitals.

According to the investigation, Dr. Sharma worked at the Badshah Khan Civil Hospital’s heart care centre, run under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with Meditrina Hospital, from July 18, 2024, to February 5, 2025. During this period, he allegedly treated over 4,100 heart patients and conducted dozens of critical procedures—without being qualified to do so.

The fraud came to light after a patient approached the real Dr. Pankaj Mohan, a cardiologist and director of KP Heart and Skin Centre in Faridabad. He immediately filed a complaint with the Indian Medical Association, sent a legal notice, and alerted Faridabad’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jayant Ahuja.

A parallel complaint was also filed by advocate and social activist Sanjay Gupta, who alleged that Sharma used forged documents to acquire fake qualifications.

Subsequently, the Faridabad NIT Police filed an FIR and sent the accused’s documents to the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for verification. The NBEMS report confirmed that no such candidate named Pankaj Mohan Sharma had ever appeared for the cardiology certification exam. DCP Maqsood Ahmad of NIT Faridabad confirmed that the degree was fraudulent.

In addition to faking his medical credentials, Dr. Sharma allegedly used another doctor’s MBBS registration number and operated a Facebook account under the alias “Kshitij Mohan.” Investigators also discovered he is listed as a managing director of a film production company, Pensus Professional Pvt. Ltd.

A case has now been registered against Dr. Sharma and others involved, including Dr. N Pratap Kumar of Meditrina Hospital Pvt. Ltd., under relevant sections of law. As of now, Sharma remains unreachable, with his phone switched off.
