Woman Claims Doctor Left Cotton Swab in Abdomen, Case Registered After Court Order
Meerut: In a case of alleged medical negligence, a female gynaecologist in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has been booked for reportedly leaving a cotton bundle inside a woman’s abdomen following a C-section delivery in 2018. The FIR was registered at TP Nagar police station on Friday after a court order from Assistant Chief Magistrate Prachi Aggarwal.
Complaint Details
According to complainant Rajni Sharma, she delivered a baby girl at Sirohi Nursing Home on June 30, 2018, where Dr. Shikha Jain performed the C-section. However, post-surgery, she experienced persistent stomach pain, which the doctor misdiagnosed as stomach ulcers despite multiple consultations.
As her condition worsened, she sought treatment at a medical college, where she had to undergo two additional surgeries. Doctors then allegedly discovered that the pain was caused by a cotton bundle left inside her abdomen due to Dr. Jain’s negligence.
Legal Action & Doctor’s Response
After failing to receive a response from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and other authorities, Sharma moved the court, leading to the FIR against Dr. Jain.
However, Dr. Jain has denied all allegations, calling it a money-extortion attempt. She stated, “There is nothing like that. This is just a way to take money from the doctor.”
Meerut CMO Dr. Ashok Kataria claimed he was unaware of any complaint filed by Sharma at his office. Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the case.
