New Pune facility under the PRAGATI health project will offer specialised services in neurosurgery, oncology, cardiology, gynaecology and neonatology, with 772 posts approved
The Maharashtra government is set to establish a 200-bed superspeciality hospital at the Aundh District Hospital (ADH) campus in Pune under the PRAGATI health project, officials said.
The proposed facility is aimed at expanding access to specialised healthcare services and strengthening the public healthcare infrastructure in Pune district.
Hospital to Offer Multiple Superspeciality Services
According to officials, the new hospital will provide specialised services in several fields, including neurosurgery, oncology, cardiology, gynaecology and neonatology.
The state government has approved 772 posts for the Pune facility, with the annual salary expenditure estimated at approximately Rs 60.33 crore.
The proposed hospital is expected to help address the growing demand for specialised medical services in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Proposal Submitted for 200-Bed Superspeciality and Women’s Hospitals
The Pune district civil surgeon had submitted a proposal to the state government in January 2025 seeking approval for a 200-bed superspeciality hospital along with a separate 200-bed women’s hospital.
The proposal envisaged 772 posts for the two facilities and estimated the total project cost at Rs 1,527 crore.
Pune district civil surgeon Dr Nitin Deomane said the rapidly growing population of Pune district has placed considerable pressure on Sassoon General Hospital in delivering healthcare services.
The proposed facilities are intended to expand the availability of specialised and women’s healthcare services for residents of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Five Major Hospital Projects Under PRAGATI
The Pune project is among five major hospital initiatives approved under the PRAGATI programme.
The broader plan includes construction of 500-bed district hospitals in Kolhapur and Nanded.
Under the programme, district hospitals in Nagpur and Latur will also be upgraded from their existing 100-bed capacity to 300 beds.
The projects are expected to expand public healthcare capacity and improve access to specialised treatment across Maharashtra.
Pune Civic Hospitals Also Set for Upgrade
Separately, the Pune Municipal Corporation is planning to upgrade nine civic hospitals to strengthen maternal healthcare services.
The proposed upgrades include facilities such as modular operation theatres, intensive care units and neonatal intensive care units.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening treatment capacity at civic hospitals and reducing the need to refer patients to private and tertiary-care hospitals.
