CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to M. Vignesh, who allegedly stabbed a government doctor at Kalaignar Centenary Super-Specialty Hospital due to dissatisfaction with the treatment provided to his mother.

Granting the relief, Justice A. D. Jagadish Chandira directed the accused to appear before the Sathuvachari police station in Vellore daily until further orders.

During the hearing, the prosecution opposed the bail application, arguing that the accused attacked a government doctor while he was on duty. However, Vignesh’s counsel submitted that the incident occurred because the accused was upset over the treatment given to his mother.

The judge then questioned the prosecution on whether an FIR had been registered against the doctor for alleged insufficient treatment. As the prosecution failed to clarify any action taken, the court allowed the bail application.

On November 14, Dr. Balaji Jaganathan was attacked by Vignesh, who was apprehended by hospital staff while attempting to flee. Vignesh, an automobile engineering diploma holder, was subsequently remanded in judicial custody.

According to the prosecution, Vignesh’s mother, Prema Manoharan, was an advanced-stage cancer patient who had undergone six rounds of chemotherapy and palliative care at the hospital.
