New Delhi : The Madras High Court has issued a stay on the declaration of NEET-UG 2025 results after 13 candidates filed a petition citing severe exam disruption due to a power outage at the Avadi exam centre near Chennai.
Justice V. Lakshminarayanan passed the interim order on May 16, directing the National Testing Agency (NTA) not to release the results until further notice. The NTA has been asked to submit its response by June 2, 2025.
What Led to the Stay?
- The petitioners were among 464 candidates at the Avadi centre who alleged major disruptions during the exam on May 4, 2025.
- A power failure from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM left the hall without backup lighting.
- Rainwater entered the premises, forcing students to relocate mid-exam.
- Despite the chaos, exam authorities denied requests for extra time, severely impacting candidates’ performance.

- NEET-UG 2025 results, originally scheduled for June 14, may be delayed depending on the court’s final decision.
- The stay applies only to result declaration, not the release of the provisional answer key, which is still expected soon on neet.nta.nic.in.
Provisional Answer Key & Objection Process
- Candidates will be able to challenge the provisional answer key by paying a fee of ₹200 per question.
- After reviewing all objections, the NTA will publish the final answer key, which will form the basis of the final result.
