Mumbai: The head of the forensic medicine department at BMC-run KEM Hospital has been booked for allegedly molesting a fellow doctor’s wife and their two minor daughters, in an incident that reportedly dates back to 2015. The Bhoiwada police registered the FIR on Sunday under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The accused, currently serving as the Head of Department (HOD), has been charged under:

  • Section 74 of BNS (criminal force to outrage modesty),
  • Section 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace),
  • Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation),
  • and Section 8 of the POCSO Act.

A senior officer confirmed that the complaint had been previously filed in writing. “Following verification, an FIR was registered and statements from relevant parties are now being recorded,” the officer said.

Sources revealed that the accused had allegedly abused and threatened the complainant’s husband, and also molested their daughters, aged 15 and 9 at the time. The mother, also a doctor, is said to have made the allegations after enduring years of silence.

In a related development, the complainant’s husband, a professor in the same department, was suspended a month ago after six women doctors accused him of sexual harassment. The complaint in that case had been submitted to the current accused HOD and the hospital dean.

This latest revelation has cast a shadow over the hospital’s forensic medicine department, already under scrutiny due to the prior harassment case.

The investigation is ongoing.
