Mumbai: A recent robbery at the house of a senior doctor and professor at KEM Hospital, located in Parel, has left the family in shock. The burglars, who targeted the unoccupied residence, made off with cash worth Rs 12 lakh (in Indian currency), along with gold and silver ornaments.
The incident occurred on January 13, while the doctor, Dr. Rahul Kumar Ramchandra, his wife (a gynaecologist), and their son were away at work and school. The family had been residing at the hospital’s premises since December 2023. The thieves took advantage of their absence to break into the house and steal valuable items.
Upon returning home around 3 or 4 PM, the doctor’s wife found the house in complete disarray. After noticing missing cash and jewelry, she immediately informed her husband, who discovered that the front door lock had been broken. The robbers had likely used a sharp object to force entry into the house.
The family then approached the police, who registered a case under sections 305 (theft in dwelling house) and 331 (house trespass or house break-in) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities are now analyzing nearby CCTV footage to identify the culprits, and an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the robbers.
Dr. Ramchandra, who works at KEM Hospital, expressed his concern over the break-in, while the police continue their efforts to resolve the case.
