A week after a shocking case involving alleged sexual assault of a minor and illegal abortion surfaced in Chitradurga district, police are continuing their search for a doctor who remains absconding and has been named as the second accused.
Doctor on the Run, Police Close In
According to police sources, the accused doctor has been evading गिरफ्तारी since the case was registered. Authorities say efforts are underway to trace and apprehend her जल्द ही.
“We are actively searching for her and expect to take her into custody shortly,” a police official stated.
Minor Alleges Repeated Assault by Teacher
The case came to light after a Class 10 student filed a complaint on April 10, accusing her mathematics teacher of repeated sexual assault.
As per the complaint, the teacher allegedly took the victim to multiple locations, including areas in Challakere and Talaku, where he sexually abused her several times and threatened her against disclosing the incidents.
Illegal Abortion Allegation Surfaces
The victim further alleged that the accused teacher forced her to undergo an abortion at a private hospital. This led to the doctor being named as a co-accused for allegedly conducting the procedure illegally.
Following these revelations, the hospital in question was inspected and subsequently sealed by district health authorities.
Teacher Arrested Under POCSO Act
Police have already arrested the accused teacher, who has been sent to judicial custody under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Meanwhile, the absconding doctor’s role remains under investigation, with authorities focusing on her involvement in the alleged незакон procedure.
Authorities Step Up Action
District Health Officer Dr Renu Prasad visited the hospital premises as part of the investigation. Additionally, officials from the District Child Protection Unit met the victim’s family to ensure support and assess the situation on the ground.
A formal case has been registered at Talaku police station against both the accused.
Stricter Reporting Norms in Place
The case comes amid stricter directives by the Karnataka government, mandating all hospitals to report pregnancies involving minors. The move is aimed at enabling prompt legal action under the POCSO Act and preventing such incidents.
