Accused Caught After Extensive Investigation
Delhi Police have arrested a 43-year-old woman from Ghaziabad for allegedly stealing jewelry from the AIIMS women doctors’ hostel. The accused, a science graduate with a diploma in medical lab technology, confessed that her love for gold led her to commit multiple thefts.
Theft Complaint Leads to Police Probe
The case surfaced when a woman doctor at AIIMS filed a police complaint on March 27, reporting the theft of two gold chains, a gold ring, a pair of gold earrings, a gold bracelet, Rs 4,500 in cash, and 522 Malaysian ringgits (approximately Rs 10,000).
CCTV Footage Unmasks the Thief
Police scanned footage from about 100 CCTV cameras at AIIMS and spotted a woman in a doctor’s coat attempting to open several hostel room doors. Another camera captured her arriving and leaving on a scooter. Tracking the vehicle led authorities to her home in Brij Vihar, Ghaziabad, where she was arrested.
Modus Operandi of the Accused
During interrogation, the woman admitted that she had observed that many women doctors at AIIMS left their rooms unlocked. To avoid suspicion, she donned a doctor’s coat and entered the hostel premises, stealing valuables from the rooms.
The case highlights the need for increased security in hospital premises and hostels to prevent similar incidents in the future.
