Incident Raises Fresh Concerns Over Safety of Healthcare Professionals in Hospitals
A 30-year-old woman doctor has alleged that she was molested by a housekeeping employee inside a hospital located in Indore’s Vijay Nagar area during the early hours of Thursday. Following her complaint, the police registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation into the matter.
According to police officials, the incident took place while the doctor was resting in the hospital’s designated restroom during duty hours. In her complaint, she alleged that a housekeeping employee entered the room without authorization.
The doctor stated that when she questioned the employee’s presence, he allegedly grabbed her hand and attempted to cover her mouth with his other hand. She reportedly resisted the assault, pushed the accused away, and ran out of the room shouting for help.
Hearing her cries, members of the hospital’s nursing staff rushed to the location. However, by the time they arrived, the accused had allegedly fled from the spot.
Following the incident, the doctor informed the hospital administration and senior officials. Police were subsequently called to the hospital, and a formal complaint was lodged at the local police station.
According to reports, police initiated an investigation immediately after receiving the complaint. Speaking to media outlets, Vijay Nagar police station in-charge Chandrakant Patel confirmed that the accused has been arrested and that further legal action is underway.
Authorities are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and reviewing security arrangements within the hospital premises.
The alleged molestation has once again highlighted concerns regarding workplace safety for healthcare professionals, particularly women doctors working late-night and emergency shifts. The incident has also sparked discussions about the need for stricter security measures, controlled access to staff rest areas, and enhanced protection mechanisms within healthcare institutions.
Notably, a similar incident was reported recently in Bengaluru, where a 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a postgraduate doctor while she was returning to her paying guest accommodation after completing her duty hours.
