A South Delhi dermatologist has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 45-year-old domestic worker who had been employed at his residence for nearly 15 years. Investigators believe a domestic dispute related to the victim’s continued employment may have played a significant role in the shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the city.
Domestic Dispute May Have Triggered Fatal Attack
According to police officials, the accused dermatologist had recently been involved in disagreements with his wife over the possibility of removing the domestic help from their household. His wife, an Ayurvedic practitioner, reportedly opposed the move, citing the woman’s years of loyal service and her role in caring for the dermatologist’s mother during her illness.
Investigators suspect that the dispute may have affected the doctor psychologically, with officials indicating that he may have felt overshadowed by the domestic worker’s long-standing position within the family. Police also believe that a brief argument may have taken place between the accused and the victim shortly before the alleged attack.
Victim Allegedly Attacked with Cricket Bat and Knife
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday morning inside the doctor’s residence in the upscale Mount Kailash area of South Delhi. Police said the victim was allegedly assaulted with a cricket bat before being stabbed with a knife.
Authorities received an emergency call around 11:36 am reporting that a woman was lying in a pool of blood on the terrace of a nearby building. Upon reaching the spot, police found the dermatologist present along with the victim’s body.
According to officials, the accused reportedly told police, “I am surrendering.” A blood-stained cricket bat and knife were recovered from the scene.
Neighbours and domestic workers in the area reported hearing screams shortly before the incident was discovered.
Accused Reportedly Under Mental Health Treatment
Police sources revealed that the dermatologist has reportedly been undergoing treatment for mental health conditions, including depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and has been on medication for nearly a decade.
The doctor’s wife was reportedly away at a nursing home when the incident occurred.
Family Demands Answers
The victim’s family said she had left for work as usual on the morning of the incident and later learned about her death through a phone call.
Speaking to media outlets, the victim’s brother said the family was initially not provided clear information regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her son expressed grief and disbelief over the incident, stating that his mother had worked tirelessly to support the family and had been employed by the household for more than a decade. He questioned the motive behind the alleged killing and demanded answers from authorities.
Neighbours Express Shock
Residents of the neighbourhood expressed surprise over the allegations. Some neighbours stated that they had never witnessed any unusual or aggressive behaviour from the accused doctor and described both him and his wife as courteous individuals.
Established Medical Career
The accused completed his MBBS from Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College, Jaipur, in 1999. He subsequently worked as a resident doctor at GB Pant Hospital in Delhi and later at AIIMS New Delhi. After obtaining a postgraduate degree in Dermatology in 2005, he began private practice in Mount Kailash in 2006.
Investigation Underway
Delhi Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case and are currently examining CCTV footage from the area. Statements of witnesses, neighbours, family members, and other relevant persons are being recorded as authorities work to establish the sequence of events leading to the alleged murder.
The accused remains in police custody while further investigation is underway.
