The Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (APJUDA) has announced a one-week deferment of its proposed strike after receiving written assurances and an invitation for discussions on stipend revision from the Director of Medical Education (DME). The association said the decision was taken to facilitate constructive dialogue with health authorities while reiterating that its demand for a fair stipend revision remains unchanged.
Strike Deferred to Facilitate Discussions
APJUDA said the temporary postponement follows the DME’s request and is intended to provide an opportunity for meaningful discussions with senior health officials regarding the revision of stipends for junior doctors.
The association clarified that the one-week deferment should not be interpreted as a withdrawal or weakening of its demand for a fair increase in stipends.
APJUDA Reaffirms Commitment to Junior Doctors
In a statement, APJUDA President Dr U Eswar Shankar and General Secretaries Dr Balagam Dinakar Sai Srinivas, Dr M Ravi Theja Naik, and Dr Sk Lukhman Ali said the association remains committed to protecting the interests of junior doctors while continuing constructive engagement with the government.
The leadership stated, “As a responsible body committed to safeguarding the interests of junior doctors while maintaining constructive dialogue, APJUDA has decided to temporarily postpone the strike for one week following assurances from the DME. However, under no circumstances should this deferment be viewed as a dilution of our resolve.”
Future Course to Depend on Outcome of Talks
The association said it will closely monitor the progress of discussions with the health authorities during the one-week period before deciding its next course of action.
APJUDA also stated that any future decisions would be communicated only through official statements. It thanked junior doctors across government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh for their support and urged members to remain vigilant and rely solely on authorised communication channels.
