Indore, June 7 — A horrifying and deeply unsettling incident has come to light from Mhow Civil Hospital in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh, where a stray dog was seen carrying the body of a dead newborn in its jaws early Saturday morning. The incident has sent shockwaves across the state and raised serious questions about hospital security and public safety.
Disturbing Discovery
The shocking sight was reported near the hospital’s toilet area between 1:30 am and 2:00 am. CCTV footage reportedly shows a stray dog emerging from the premises with the infant’s body. A security guard managed to chase the animal away and retrieve what was left of the mutilated body.
Teenage Girl Suspected to Have Delivered Baby
Hospital authorities have revealed that a 17-year-old girl had been admitted around 9:00 pm on Friday night with abdominal pain. According to hospital in-charge Dr. H.R. Verma, the girl was seen entering the toilet near the time of the incident and allegedly left the hospital soon after with an unidentified man. Authorities now suspect the girl delivered a premature stillborn baby in the toilet and abandoned the body.
Postmortem Underway
Medical officials believe the newborn was stillborn and delivered prematurely. The body, which had been partially eaten by the dog, has undergone a postmortem examination. Final results are awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
Hospital Security Failures
In a major lapse, all three gates of the hospital were reportedly left open at night, allowing stray animals easy access to the premises. Dr. Verma has now ordered that all gates be locked during night hours and additional security personnel be deployed at the main entrance to prevent such intrusions in the future.
Police Investigation in Progress
Rahul Sharma, in-charge of Mhow Police Station, confirmed a full investigation is underway. Authorities are examining CCTV footage, patient logs, and conducting inquiries to identify and locate the girl and her companion. Legal action is expected based on the findings.
Wider Concerns on Stray Dog Menace
This harrowing incident follows closely after the tragic death of a 4-year-old boy mauled by stray dogs in Mandsaur district earlier this week. Both events have intensified public outcry and renewed debates over the state government’s management of stray animals.
Public Reaction
Citizens and child welfare groups have expressed outrage, demanding accountability from both hospital authorities and civic agencies. The incident has not only exposed gaps in hospital protocol but also raised alarms over growing threats posed by unchecked stray animals in urban areas.
