Nagpur: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Nagpur has raised concerns over the stringent regulations imposed on small and mid-sized private hospitals, urging the Maharashtra government to provide regulatory relief.
A delegation of doctors met Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar on Sunday, highlighting the challenges faced by hospitals with 10 to 50 beds due to excessive documentation and multiple clearance requirements. They requested a simplified hospital renewal process and a separate regulatory framework for smaller hospitals.
In response, Abitkar assured them that a dedicated meeting would be held within two weeks to address their concerns.
IMA Nagpur president Dr. Manjusha Giri emphasized that “small hospitals are the backbone of healthcare for the common people and should not be subjected to corporate-level regulations.”
Additionally, the doctors raised concerns about the quality of newly established government medical colleges (GMCs) in the region. They stressed the need for adequate infrastructure and qualified faculty to ensure proper training for future doctors.
IMA representatives also underscored the importance of safeguarding the welfare of student and resident doctors.
