Hyderabad: A major controversy has erupted in Ibrahimpatnam, Rangareddy district, after nursing staff at a private hospital allegedly conducted a cesarean section on a pregnant woman without a doctor physically present. The woman gave birth to premature twins at 18 weeks, both of whom died within hours.

Relatives of the woman claimed that the senior obstetrician, who was not at the hospital at the time, gave instructions for the surgery over the phone to the nurses. This sparked massive protests and demands for strict action, with the aggrieved family alleging gross medical negligence.

District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) and senior health officials visited the hospital and immediately sealed the facility. “No medical procedure should be performed without a qualified doctor present in the operation theatre,” officials stated, confirming an investigation is underway.

The woman had conceived through IVF, and officials said there may have been medical complications requiring urgent intervention. However, the legitimacy of the procedure — allegedly carried out without direct doctor supervision — is now under intense scrutiny.

The woman is reported to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, her relatives held a dharna demanding justice, and later filed a formal complaint against the hospital and doctor involved.
