Panaji: The High Court has issued a notice to Dr. Ravi P. Teja following a medical negligence complaint filed by advocate Moses Pinto. The complaint stems from a laparoscopic appendectomy performed at Victor Hospital, Margao, in August 2023, which allegedly led to complications, requiring corrective surgery.
- Unauthorized Practice: Dr. Teja admitted to practising without registration with the Goa Medical Council for over 10 months, attributing the delay to pending documentation from the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council. He was fined ₹10,000 and granted registration in May 2024.
- Record Manipulation: The disciplinary committee found Dr. Teja had altered patient records post-surgery, which they deemed a serious violation.
- Absence of Surgery Video: The committee noted that a video recording of the surgery, while not mandatory, would have simplified the investigation process.
Though the ethics committee dismissed the negligence claim, it reprimanded Dr. Teja for procedural violations. Pinto has since challenged the committee’s dismissal in the High Court. The legal proceedings are ongoing.
