Crackdown in Bhikhanpur and Mundichak Exposes Risk to Patients
Patna: In a major enforcement drive, the Health Department sealed two unlicensed medical centres operating in Bhikhanpur and Mundichak, citing serious violations that endangered patients’ lives. The action was part of an ongoing campaign against illegal clinics functioning without registration or qualified doctors.
The inspection team, led by Sadar Hospital in-charge Dr. Raju Kumar and hospital manager Ashutosh Kumar, first raided a clinic located on Bhikhanpur Neethan Vidyalaya Road. Officials noted that banners and posters had been hastily removed before the team arrived, indicating an attempt to avoid scrutiny.
During the inspection, authorities found operation tables and medical instruments in a severely rusted condition. A significant stock of expired Tetvac injections was also recovered from the premises. Health officials warned that administering such expired vaccines could prove fatal for patients.
Despite the poor conditions, the clinic had reportedly been treating patients until Tuesday. The patient entry register recovered from the site confirmed recent medical consultations and procedures being carried out at the unregistered facility.
The team then proceeded to a second clinic in Mundichak, which was also operating without a qualified doctor. At the time of inspection, two patients were found waiting in the outpatient department (OPD), with only minimal medical equipment available for treatment.
Officials observed that the Mundichak clinic had just a single stand and an IV stand for administering treatment, raising concerns about the lack of basic healthcare infrastructure. The absence of proper facilities further highlighted the risks faced by patients visiting such centres.
Speaking to Bhaskar Daily, Health Department officials stated that the crackdown on illegal and unregistered clinics will continue across the district. Authorities have made it clear that FIRs will be registered against operators found violating medical regulations.
Dr. Raju Kumar confirmed that patient registers and other suspicious documents have been seized as evidence. Both clinics have been sealed with immediate effect, and legal proceedings have been initiated. He emphasized that illegal medical practices will not be tolerated under any circumstances, as the matter directly concerns public safety and lives.
