HC saves physician from shedding MBBS diploma, Ophthalmology Diploma

Mumbai :  The Division bench of Bombay high court of  Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice RN Laddha saved Mohammed Arif Mohammed Irfan Khan from losing his MBBS degree and a post-graduate diploma in Ophthalmology for allegedly producing a bogus Caste Validity Certificate of Scheduled Tribes category to secure admission in the medical course at Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital. Though the bench secured the MBBS degree and the PG diploma of Khan, the bench refused to interfere with the order issued by Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, asking Khan to deposit ₹10.93 lakhs as penalty.

Earlier , the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had instructed the state-run medical college to write to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, to cancel the MBBS degree conferred on Mohammed Arif Mohammed Irfan Khan. It had also asked the college to levy a fine on him for having completed the medical course based on a forged Caste Validity Certificate. DMER stated that on enquiry with the Caste Scrutiny Committee at Nandurbar on the genuiness of Caste Validity Certificate produced by Khan, the Committee informed that the certificate was not issued by them.
