Government Hospitals Expand Lifesaving Services for CKD Patients

In a significant boost to public healthcare, PGIMS Rohtak, along with other government hospitals in Haryana, conducted nearly 1.89 lakh free dialysis sessions for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) during 2025–26, a senior official confirmed.

The initiative reflects the state government’s continued commitment to providing accessible and affordable treatment for patients battling life-threatening kidney conditions.

100% Success Rate in Renal Transplants Since 2023

Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Haryana, highlighted that the Department of Nephrology at PGIMS Rohtak has achieved an impressive 100% success rate in 34 renal transplants performed between February 2023 and April 2026.

The transplant programme, launched in 2023, began with two successful cadaveric transplants and has shown steady growth:

  • 10 transplants in 2024
  • 17 transplants in 2025
  • 4 transplants completed so far in 2026

This upward trend indicates improved medical capacity and growing public trust in government healthcare services.

Shift Towards Living Donor Transplants

Initially dependent on cadaveric donations, the programme has now seen a rise in living donor transplants. This shift points to increasing awareness, better counselling, and stronger community participation in organ donation.

Free Dialysis and Comprehensive Care Across Haryana

Dialysis services are now operational at PGIMS Rohtak as well as all district hospitals across Haryana. In 2025–26 alone, PGIMS Rohtak conducted 20,466 dialysis sessions, offering patients free consultations, essential medicines, and diagnostic support.

Approximately 400–500 new CKD patients were registered at the institute last year, highlighting the growing need for kidney care services.

125 Patients Await Transplant, Receiving Free Support

Currently, around 125 patients are undergoing dialysis while awaiting renal transplantation. The government is ensuring that all required investigations and pre-transplant procedures are provided free of cost to facilitate timely treatment.

Renal Transplant Programme Becomes Flagship Initiative

To further strengthen the programme, the Haryana government has made renal transplantation a flagship healthcare initiative. Key steps include:

  • Appointment of two transplant surgeons with special remuneration of ₹3.5 lakh per month
  • Development of state-of-the-art infrastructure
  • Provision of advanced medications and full patient support systems

Free Kidney Transplants Improve Access to Advanced Care

Renal transplants, which typically cost ₹5 lakh or more in private hospitals, are now being offered free of cost to Haryana residents at PGIMS Rohtak. This move has significantly improved access to advanced and life-saving treatment for economically weaker sections.
